Cavanagh is a co-editor of the Somatechnics journal at Edinburgh University Press. She coordinated the Sexuality Studies Program at York University and chaired the Canadian Sexuality Studies Association. Her scholarship lies in gender and sexuality studies with a focus on queer theory, feminist psychoanalytic theory and LGBTQ performance ethnography.
