Professor Cavanagh’s scholarship lies in psychoanalytic sociology, queer theory, and transgender studies. She is a co-Editor in Chief of the Australian Feminist Studies journal and former co-editor of Somatechnics journal. Cavanagh is also past president of the Canadian Sexuality Studies Association and former Chair of the Sexuality Studies Program at York University. Cavanagh is a social worker/psychotherapist in private practice. She is also a clinical candidate at the Lacanian School of Psychoanalysis in California.
